In the 1901 census for Dungiven, Londonderry, the following information is given, John Kelly, head, shoemaker age 35, Bridget Kelly his wife age 31, John Kelly their son age 9, Mary Kelly their daughter age 7, and Bridge Kelly a sister of John Kelly. John Kelly married Bridget Bradley in Maghera Roman Catholic Church about 1894. In 1902 the following members of the family came to Scotland, John Kelly, his wife Bridget and son John, John Kelly's sister Bridget and his daughter Mary stayed in Ireland. The family settled in Castlehill Wishaw, there John Kelly's wife  Bridget died May 12th. 1903, Bridget Kelly's parents were Patrick Bradley and Mary Bradley nee McCluskey.

John Kelly, age 19, coal miner, 19 Castlehill views, Wishaw, married Sarah  Sneddon age 19 restaurant waitress in Glasgow, on the 1st. May 1911, at 102 Parson street Glasgow, Parents of John Kelly were

This was a marriage by declaration of present consent all that was needed was that the parties declared their intention to be married to each other from that moment onwards. This is not the same as a promise to marry at a future date. It was not necessary that there should be witnesses but it was almost impossible to prove unless there were witnesses .
It is important to remember that these forms of marriage were perfectly legal and gave exactly the same rights as were obtained by those who went through a formal ceremony. There was no need for registration for the marriage to be valid.

The wife of John Kelly, Bridget Kelly nee Bradley age 33,  died May 13th. 1903 at 19 Castlehill View Wishaw, John Kelly her husband was present at death. The parents of Bridget Kelly nee Bradley were Patrick and Mary Bradley nee McCloskey/McCluskey

On the 31st, August 1883, at the Established Church of Scotland, Steel street Wishaw, Adam Sneddon age 24, coal miner, Overtown, married Margaret Gray, age 24, domestic servant, Overtown
Parents of Adam Sneddon were Walter Sneddon, coal miner deceased and Mary Sneddon nee Hardie. Parents of Margaret Sneddon nee Gray were Daniel Gray, (reputed father) coal miner and Catherine McPherson nee Hunter.

Adam Sneddon was born December 6th. 1857, in Gladsmuir, his parents were Walter Sneddon, coal miner  and Mary Sneddon nee Hardie

Walter Sneddon and Mary Sneddon nee Hardie were married Oct. 3rd. 1854, in Airdrie

On the birth certificate for Margaret Sneddon it stated illegitimate, born 1882, Bridge street Wishaw, parents Margaret Grey domestic servant and Adam Sneddon, coal miner

Walter Sneddon was born Feb. 8th. 1863, at 10 Sneddons Rows Wishaw, his parents were Walter Sneddon coal miner and Mary Sneddon nee Hardie

Walter Sneddon, married first to Marion Barnes, then  Mary Sneddon nee Hardie, died Feb. 26th. 1871,at Sneddons Rows Wishaw, parents of Walter Sneddon were William Sneddon, coal miner, deceased and Helen Sneddon nee Sneddon, deceased John Sneddon his son was present at the death

David Riddell McQueen was born April  the 4th. 1896, at 18 Dalziel street Motherwell, parents were Hugh McQueen, hammer man and Janet McQueen nee Riddell, who were married April 14th. 1885 Bothwell

David Riddell McQueen  married  Agnes McEwan, age 22, 7th. January 1925 in the Church of Scotland, Merry street Motherwell, Agnes McEwan died  on the 4th. January 1927, at 29 Park street Motherwell .

David Riddell McQueen, age 32, bridge work planer, 10 Dalziel street Motherwell,  married Grace Adams Kerr, domestic servant,  age 23, 143 Craigneuk street Wishaw, on the 12th. December 1930, at the Church of Scotland Craigneuk, Parents of David Riddell McQueen were Hugh McQueen, hammer man, deceased and Janet McQueen nee Riddell, Parents of Grace Adams Kerr were Robert Russell Kerr, colliery repairer, and Grace Kerr nee Adams. Witnesses were Thomas Cotter and Janet Kerr

Janet Ridddell died 7th. May 1937, her husband Hugh McQueen died 5th. July 1917

parents of Hugh McQueen were Hugh McQueen, hammer man, deceased and Janet McQueen nee Riddell. Parents of Sarah Beck were William Beck, land steward and Mary Jane Beck nee Bigham deceased
witnesses were Grace Beck and Charles McQueen, .

Robert Russell Kerr, age 29, coal miner, Craigneuk, married Grace Adam age 23, farm servant, Headless Cross, on the 15th. July 1898, at Headless Cross, Parents of Robert Russell Kerr were David Kerr coal miner deceased and Janet Kerr nee Russell, Parents of Grace Adams were Robert Adams, general labourer and Agnes Adams nee Martin, witnesses were John Cameron and Agnes Adams
Headless Cross is about 1 mile past Shotts on the road to East Calder, it was a small mining village at one time.

On the 30th. December 1864. Daniel Kerr age 28, Bathgate parish, Armadale married Janet Russell, age 21, factory hand in Old Monklands  Free Church of Scotland.
Parents of Janet Russell were Robert Russell, coal miner and Ann Russell nee Shaw
Parents of Daniel Kerr were David Kerr, coal miner and Barbara Kerr nee McGeachey
